Knowing your growing zone tells you which perennials can make it through your winters. Knowing your frost dates tells you when to start seeds and when to get the last of the garden in. This printable [PD: confirm page count] puts both side by side.

What you’ll get:

  • A color map of US growing zones (the lower 48, plus Alaska and Hawaii insets) with a zone legend
  • A frost-date table with approximate last-spring and first-fall frost ranges for Zones 3–10
  • A short note on how to find your exact local frost dates

We’ll email you the map, then a few short notes about our homestead and the plans and printables we make. Unsubscribe anytime with one click. We never sell your email.

Please note

This is not the official USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map. It’s a simplified, recolored version that rounds to whole zones, so zone edges are approximate. For your exact zone, look up your ZIP code on the official USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map. Frost dates are approximate ranges and vary by location and elevation, so check your local frost dates by ZIP code.

Where these dates come from on our place

We’re in Franklin, Kentucky. [DEREK: confirm our zone and the frost dates we plan around, or cut this section.] We plan the garden around frost dates every spring and fall, and this is the same reference we use.
